Nice take on the On Top theme! The Carpenters were riding in such an airplane when Karen Carpenter remarked something to the effect that, “We’re on top of the world.” Their chief songwriting collaborator, John Bettis, wrote the words, with Richard Carpenter writing the music, at least the way I heard it. And the rest is history: No. 1 on Billboard’s Top 100 and a Lynn Anderson cover that went to No. 2 on the Country charts, and actually released the song as a single before The Carpenters. 🙂
